There was a time, not so long ago, when the term ‘Disney’ in an animated production meant so much; a fantastic narrative experience was guaranteed, and a masterpiece was always imaginable. However, each Disney project has now begun to feel like a rehash of every previous Disney project, gradually destroying any excitement that one could have had for each new endeavor.
Wish is no exception, and it is just as boring and uninteresting as its critics claim. If there’s one thing worth remembering, it’s the watercolor-esque art style, but it doesn’t justify the film’s existence. Wish is a superficial film with no substance. It features a Disney protagonist and adversary, a Disney merchandise mascot, some Disney music, and that’s about it.
The question is whether youngsters would appreciate it. After all, it is the movie’s primary target audience. And the answer may be ‘yes’, but only to the extent that they would love something like Cocomelon. There is nothing remarkable that stands out or inspires. It’s another Disney demonstration of superb animation with almost nothing more to offer.
